FAQs Everything you need to know!
We understand that joining a new dance school comes with plenty of questions, so we’ve put together this handy FAQ section to cover the most common ones. Whether you're wondering about commitments, uniform requirements, watching classes, or performance opportunities, you'll find the answers here. If you have any other queries, don’t hesitate to get in touch—we’re always happy to help!
How long is my commitment?
There is no notice period for leaving classes in a child's first term, meaning there is no obligation to return the following term. Of course, we hope you will want to, but we do understand that sometimes it takes a while to work out if a class is the right thing for a student. After this, we do ask for half a term's (6 term-time weeks) notice when leaving classes. There is a lot of planning and investment of time and energy that goes into the continued development of your child's abilities, and this notice period helps us enormously when it comes to things like planning the shows and timetables.
Do I have to buy uniform?
We have a very simple uniform, which is basically a Dance Shack t-shirt, black leggings/tracksuit bottoms and “jazz” shoes.
T-shirts, hoodies, shoes and much more can be ordered via our online SHOP.
We do have branded leggings too, but you are welcome to buy black leggings/tracksuit bottoms "on the high-street".
Can I watch the class?
All our classes are “drop-and-go”. We find this works much better for everybody involved. In the youngest classes (3-5 yrs) we do understand that it might be helpful to stay for the trial, at least until your child is settled – so we’re not too strict in these cases. At the end of most terms we have a "parents’ watching week", when you can sit-in and watch your child's class in action.
Do you do exams?
No. We are a performance based school. We have nothing against exams but find they are far too constricting and don't necessarily suit all children well at all.
There are many performance opportunities throughout the year, including our huge annual shows, which are produced in professional theatres. We also run drama evenings, choreographic show-cases, and some schools have Competition classes, which compete around the region regularly.
